 Summary of the report

The Department of Microbiology and Immunology is one of the departments of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Beni Suef University. The department consists of 2 assistant professors, 8 teachers, 2 assistant teachers and 4 assistants.Amal Issa Saffan is currently the head of the department.

The year 2015 was full of achievements. Nearly 15 scientific papers were published in international scientific journals. There are 5 research papers in the magazines with an influence coefficient ranging from (4-5) and the number of 5 researches in the coefficient of influence between (2 - 3) and the rest In international and local magazines without a coefficient of influence and thus contributed to the Department of Microbiology and Immunology with a total impact factor equivalent to 42.7 for the year 2015 only.
Members of the department organized an international conference on biotechnology and its impact on emerging economies in April. Raji Hatti Kaul (Lund University, Sweden) Magdy Ali Amin (Cairo University) Ahmed Al-Zuhairi (Zagazig University) Sameh Abu Zeid (Beni Suef University) Ayman Al-Shabini (Zewail University of Science and Technology) Amr Hanoura (Suez Canal University).

During the year 2015, the members of the department were interested in organizing periodic seminars attended by all the members of the department and the master's and doctoral students enrolled in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at home and abroad. Also  dr. Rifaat Hamid, Assistant Professor, Assiut University, was invited.He gave a lecture on modern techniques for the manufacture of antibiotics. The participants also participated in lectures or scientific posters in the equivalent of 12 international conferences organized in Egypt, the Netherlands, USA and others.
The year 2015 witnessed the travel of both Dr. Sameh Abdul Ghani to the University of Louisville, USA, on a scientific mission for 6 months with an Egyptian grant from the Academy of Scientific Research. Tariq Desheisha to the University of Lund, Sweden, on a scientific mission for 3 months with a grant from the Swedish side.

In the framework of activating the research trend in the department to keep up with the University's logo towards a research university, the members of the department received, in 2015, grants and support for research projects amounting to one million and 80 thousand pounds submitted by the Academy of Scientific Research in a project on advanced paving technology (one million pounds) Center for Research Development at Beni Suef University on studies related to hepatitis C and on the development of a new nanotechnology technology to develop and increase the effectiveness of an antimicrobial protein (40,000 each).
Three members of the Department of Microbiology and Immunology (Dr. Amal Saffan Dr. Sameh Abdul Ghani, Dr. Yasser Jaber) received prizes at the Fourth Science Day organized by the University of Beni Suef for winning research projects and the best research. In addition to the awards and external recognition certificates, Dr Sameh Abdul Ghani is the ideal student among the students who reside in the University of Louisville, University of Medicine and Dentistry, for his excellence in communication and leadership skills. And dr. Yasser Jabir Ali received  Innovation Award from the Academy of Scientific Research at the Cairo Conference devotes to the design technology and the establishment of low-cost roads.

At the end of 2014 and the beginning of 2015, the Department of Microbiology and Immunology launched a website for the department on the web ,site was updated and provided with all the information required to identify the various activities of the Department of teaching and scientific research and research projects and conferences and so on and contains important information for students of the Department and graduates As well as the results of the department's materials. Which gives a distinctive image of the department facilitates the visiting professors to follow the activity of the department and make it easier for students to obtain enough information important to the educational process.
The teaching part is an essential part of the Department of Microbiology and Immunology. The members of the department participated in teaching a number of subjects for undergraduate students in the pharmaceutical and master's sciences. The members of the department applied a number of teaching and learning techniques such as reporting, teamwork and presentations to the implementation of Youtube videos to reach a simplified explanation of a specific topic. And one of the distinctive projects resulted from a video was presented on the site contains a simplified explanation of atherosclerosis disease with the use of modern sound effects and audio.

As part of the preparation of new generations of researchers, the department contributes to the training of students in research work through graduation projects. The department also participates in providing a simple explanation of the principles of microbiology and its techniques to the students of junior high and high schools visiting the college.
